Kryčaŭ DEC declares readiness for elections: foodstaffs and performers are ready, vodka is still in question

September 5, the Kryčaŭ District Election Commission held a sitting, at which the question of preparedness for the elections in the Kryčaŭ district was discussed.

The sitting was attended by an observer of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee, Siarhei Niarouny, as well as observers of pro-governmental organizations. Mr. Niarouny points out that for reasons unknown the sitting of September 5 was lead by the commission secretary Valiantsina Kameneva (Chairman of the commission Siarhei Davydau was absent for valid reasons), although the meeting was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Kryčaŭ DEC Alena Zdanovich.

The sitting considered the question of preparedness of polling stations and related services of the Kryčaŭ district to the elections. The head of the organizational and personnel department of the Kryčaŭ District Executive Committee Mikhail Meshkura, as well as representatives of the communication center, the department of culture, trade and others reported that the necessary preparation to the elections had been conducted in the Kryčaŭ district. It was announced that performances of workers of culture institutions and amateur performers would be held at each polling station. There will also be organized the work of outlets where food will be sold with a minimum trade allowance. According to the representative of the trade department, the question of the sale of alcoholic beverages on the territory of the PECs hasn't been solved yet, the appropriate decision will be taken on October 6 in Mahilioŭ.

According to Siarhei Niarouny, it was also announced at the sitting that nine observes were registered at the Kryčaŭ District Election Commission (earlier there were just 6), and 148 – at the precinct election commissions of the district. Mr. Niarouny notes that, with the exception of him as a representative of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee, all other observers are nominated by pro-governmental organizations on the initiative of the district authorities.

At the same time, in the evening on October 5 Kryčaŭ civil society activists also filed documents for being registered as observers at four polling stations: Sožaŭ polling station No. 4, Sožaŭ polling station No. 5, Mikrarajonny polling station No. 7 and Vaksaĺny polling station No. 8. All four observers were nominated by collection of voters' signatures. According to the observers, the PECs registered them without any problems. Siarhei Niarouny says that the civil society activists who have been registered as observers will be constantly present at the polling station since the beginning of the early voting on October 6.
