"Human Rights Defenders for Free Elections" present their reports to OSCE ODIHR mission
September 2, the coordinators of the campaign "Human Rights Defenders for Free Elections" had the first meeting with the mission of the OSCE ODIHR, which has started its work in Minsk.
During the meeting, Uladzimir Labkovich and Aleh Hulak exchanged views with representatives of the OSCE mission about the election campaign, analyzed the electoral legislation of Belarus and raised questions about the practical application of the electoral law. In addition, special attention was paid directly to the voting process and the possibility to watch it, the counting of ballots and appeal the flaws of the electoral process at court.
International observers also received the reports that the human rights defenders have prepared on the stages of the election campaign, which had already passed. The upcoming registration of presidential candidates was discussed, too.
Following the meeting, it was agreed to continue the close cooperation between the national independent observers and international observers, which will allow representatives of the OSCE to better understand the situation in which they work.
"As we are national observers, it is easier for us to notice the nuances of the campaign that may not be visible to people who have just arrived to work. And we very much welcome the fact that the ODIHR established the practice of such dialogue with the local independent observers.
We highly appreciate our partnership and believe that our two missions have the same goals and objectives, that's why these joint consultations provide an opportunity to achieve better results in our work," said U. Labkovich.
