Alternative candidate in Smarhoń forces state-owned media cover nomination pickets

Mikalai Ulasevich, an activist of Anatol Liabedzka’s campaign team, has received electronic answers to his petitions to the Smarhoń territorial election commission and the district executive committee, which demanded equal conditions for media coverage of presidential candidates’ nomination activities. Raisa Zakharych, head of the district election commission, says that the publication of informational materials on the websites of the district executive committee and the district government-owned weekly lies in the competence of the executive committee.

The other official letter signed by the Chairman of Smarhoń district executive committee Henadz Kharuzhyk says that the information about a picket in support of Anatol Liabedzka that Ulasevich has sent to the editorial board will be posted on the website of the Svietly šliach newspaper.

In his petitions, Mikalai Ulasevich drew attention to the fact that local stet-owned newspapers were covering the campaign of only one candidate – Aliaksandr Lukashenka, which is contrary to law.

On August 19, the information and photos of Anatol Liabedzka’s picket were indeed posted on the website of the district weekly.
