On Mikalai Statkevich's birthday, collectors of signatures in Babrujsk decided to remind citizens about political prisoners. Members of the initiative groups of Anatol Liabedzka and Tatsiana Karatkevich put on T-shirts with portraits of Mr. Statkevich and also placed such portraits on their stands.

“Some people don't know who is pictured on the T-shirts and the photos. Thus, we explain that it is Mikalai Statkevich, who is held in prison because he has struggled for our freedom,” says a member of the electoral team of Mr. Liabedzka Halina Smirnova. “We believe that it is a good opportunity to remind the people about Mr. Statkevich and other political prisoners.

“I was a member of the initiative group of Mikalai Statkevich, that's why today I have unhesitatingly supported the initiative of my colleagues. Now I collect signatures wearing a T-shirt with the image of the political prisoner,” says Alena Miadzvedzeva, a member of the initiative group of Tatsiana Karatkevich.

Several meters away from Liabedzka's picket, another electoral picket is held by Lukashenka's electoral team. The neighborhood more than strange: the portraits of Lukashenka's main rival, imprisoned after the election of 2010, face portraits of Lukashenka. Some of the people who sign in support of Liabedzka even ask whether they aren't signing for Lukashenka.
