Collecting of signatures for presidential candidates starts today
July 23 is the first day of collecting signatures by initiative groups of the presidential candidates.
The collection of signatures will last for almost a month – until August 21. As previously determined by the executive committees across Belarus, picketing is allowed in strictly limited areas, and between 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. In addition, campaigning is prohibited in this period: people can only be told about a candidate, or be shown a flyer, but cannot receive it, as this would be a violation.
During this time, members of the initiative groups will have to collect at least 100,000 signatures. After that, the Central Election Commission will determine which of the candidates will be able to continue to participate in the election.
On July 20, the Central Election Commission registered eight campaign teams: Aliaksandr Lukashenka, Siarhei Kaliakin, Siarhei Haidukevich, Tatsiana Karatkevich, Anatol Liabedzka, Zhanna Ramanouskaya, Viktar Tsiareshchanka, and Mikalai Ulakhovich.
