Human Rights Defenders for Free Elections

The campaign of election observation during the 2015 presidential election is carried out by the Human Right Center "Viasna" and the RHRPA “Belarusian Helsinki Committee”. The campaign is aimed at evaluating the election from the viewpoint of the Belarusian eletoral legislation and international standards of free and democratic elections, as well as informing the Belarusian public and international community about the progress of the election and results of observation.

Maryna Adamovich appeals ban on registration of Mikalai Statkevich’s campaign team

Maryna Adamovich, the wife of political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich, who is his legal representative and the head of the initiative group for his nomination as a presidential candidate, filed yesterday an appeal in the Supreme Court against the CEC's refusal to register the initiative group. The CEC decision was adopted on 20 July.

Maryna Adamovich considers that the refusal is unlawful and violates the Electoral Code, which differentiates between the registration of initiative groups and candidate registration.

According to Maryna Adamovich, the appeal may be considered as early as on 24 July.
