Only one representative of opposition elected member of Viciebsk regional election commission
The Viciebsk regional election commission will include deputy chairman of the regional branch of the Belarusian Popular Front Party, Kanstantsin Smolikau. Meanwhile, no representatives of the parties, whose leaders run in the election, have been allowed to join the TEC.
The meeting on the formation of the Regional Election Commission was attended by human rights activist Pavel Levinau. According to him, commission members were selected by unknown criteria:
"Firstly, they voiced only the names and the way of nomination. No personal characteristics, no other criteria. Secondly, 8 persons were nominated by the delegation from the citizens. And only two of them were included in the commission. And thirdly, in most countries election commissions include representatives of those political parties whose candidate runs in the election. And we get the opposite: the initiative group of Siarhei Kaliakin was registered, but no nominees from the Belarusian Party of the Left "Fair World" were included in the commission.”
Thus, Kanstantsin Smolikau is the only representative of the opposition parties in the territorial commissions of the Viciebsk region.
