Brest: one member of opposition party on regional election commission
For the first time ever, the website of the Brest Regional Executive Committee arranged an online broadcast of the joint meeting of the Presidium of the Regional Council of Deputies and Regional Executive Committee, which decided on the establishment of the electoral commission.
However, the broadcast lasted for about 15 minutes, as it did not take long to form the regional election commission. A total of 28 applications were submitted from nominees, but one application was rejected as it was sent by the Brest city branch of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union. According to the head of the main department for organizational and personnel work of the Executive Committee, Siarhei Tsimashuk, the law prohibits nominating representatives of city branches to the electoral commissions of the regional level.
As a result, the regional election commission included 13 people, ten of which represent public associations and political parties. In particular, the commission members are nominees from the Communist Party of Belarus, the Liberal Democratic Party, the Republican Party of Labor and Justice, and the United Civil Party. Other commissioners are representatives of the pro-government Federation of Trade Unions, the association of veterans, the NGO "Belaya Rus", the Belarusian Union of Women, the Belarusian Union of Officers, the Regional Committee of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union, and three others on the commission were nominated by citizens through an application process. The first meeting of the newly elected Electoral Commission is scheduled for July 22.
