CEC registers 8 campaign teams

The Central Election Commission completed today the registration of initiative groups to nominate candidates for the presidency, the BelTA news agency reports.

The CEC has authorized a total of eight campaign teams to participate in the collection of voters’ signatures. Today, the election authority registered the initiative groups of Viktar Tsiareshchanka, Mikalai Ulakhovich, Zhanna Ramanouskaya, Tatsiana Karatkevich and Anatol Liabedzka.

The CEC refused to register the initiative group of Andrei Kanavets, as the nominee has not lived in the territory of Belarus 10 years before the elections, as required by law. In addition, his application was not completely fill out: in particular, there were numerous mistakes in the contact information of the future candidate’s campaign activists. A similar ban was imposed on the initiative group of Mikalai Statkevich, who is currently serving a sentence and thus cannot run in the election. The applications of Iryna Pershyna, Tamara Birukova and Aliaksandr Yudayeu contained incomplete or inaccurate information, while that of Siarhei Zablotski was received by mail, which is a violation of electoral laws.

On July 17, the CEC registered the initiative group of Aliaksandr Lukashenka, Siarhei Kaliakin and Siarhei Haidukevich. The current President’s campaign headquarters are the largest one, consisting of as many as 10,577 people.

As reported earlier, the CEC received a total of 14 applications from future candidates’ campaign teams between 14 to 17 July. In addition, another request from Viktar Talmachou was received by the Commission on July 20. It was considered, but the application was rejected.
