The independent campaign “Human Rights Defenders for Free Elections” started its activities in the Hrodna region with the proclamation of the presidential elections.

At present, Hrodna human rights activists are observing the preparation of the electoral headquarters of potential candidates for president to the elections, the publications in the official media and intend to get to the sitting of Hrodna Regional Executive Committee and Hrodna City Executive Committee and the Presidia of Hrodna Regional Council and Hrodna City Council in order to observe the formation of territorial election commissions. They also prepare documents for getting registered as observers at the territorial election commissions.

Hrodna human rights activist Raman Yurhel points at the peculiarities of this year's campaign: “The observation starts quietly, there is a certain external liberalization on the part of the authorities, who are interested in outward decency. It is difficult to predict how the events will develop. A peculiarity of this campaign is that the people have become more passive and apolitical. Few people think about politics, the overall situation in the society is “stably calm”. The very formation of the territorial election commissions will shows the extent of openness and transparency of the electoral process.”
