BSUIR students complain of coercion to vote

In the evening of October 10, the last day of early voting, "Human Rights Defenders for Free Elections" received the following report from students of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics:

"We had to lock ourselves in our room, because the commandant of the dormitory, Sviatlana Dzianisava, and the curator are literally trying to burst in, trying to make us go to the early elections and threatening to deprive us of places in the dormitory next year.

Internet was cut off at 3-7 p.m. in the whole dormitory, though we have different provides. We were told it was because of some technical works that would be held until 6 p.m.

Every day we were visited either but the student council, the deputy dean or the curator. Today, other students were lead to early voting almost by their hands. But we locked ourselves.

Most students who are living in dormitories “bent” in fear of eviction and voted. “Educational conversations” were held with those who left Minsk and went to their homes in the provinces without voting.

Let us remind that many cases of coercion to early voting at polling stations and state enterprises were registered during the five days of early voting.
