No electoral activity observed in Chocimsk

The beginning of the presidential campaign of the Republic of Belarus is almost impercievable in the town of Chocimsk and in the Chocimsk district.

The website of the district state-owned newspaper “Šliach Kastryčnika” contains only the information of the state news agency BelTA about the appointment of the elections on October 11, 2015.

The section “Elections of President of the Republic of Belarus” at the website of Chocims District Executive Committee presents the Resolution of the House of Representatives "On the appointment of presidential elections in Belarus", documents of the Central Election Commission and the advert about the receipt of documents for the nomination of representatives to Chocimsk District Election Commission.

As stated by the civil society activist from Chocimsk Valery Karankevich, the local democratic activists still haven't decided whether they will nominate a representative to the district election commission. In Chocimsk district, eight people have joined the electoral team of a representative of the “People's Referendum” Tatsiana Karatkevich. Valery Karankevich says that as a result of the pressurization of local activists during the election to the Chamber of Representatives in 2012, many democratic activists fear to show any level of activity.

According to the pro-democracy activists of Chocimsk, local authorities have already created a list of members of the initiative group for nomination as a candidate of the incumbent president Aliaksandr Lukashenka.
